Books. Books. Books. It starts and ends with books!
Books. Books. Books. It starts and ends with books!
Becoming an agent with Red Fox Literary was the only logical conclusion to a life of loving and championing books. I got my first job at The Mountain Bookshop after reading nearly every book in their children’s section. While studying creative Writing and Community Studies at UC Santa Cruz, I worked as the night manager at Bookshop Santa Cruz. When life took me east to Rhode Island, I got my first editorial job at Houghton Mifflin. And when winters grew too long, I came home to California and worked on more books at Chronicle, Lucasfilm, Weldon Owen, and also on my own as a freelance editor and author.
As an agent I am seeking books that delight, make me laugh out loud, contain wonders, quirky surprises, and deep truths. I am looking for authors and illustrators who know their craft and tell their unique tales with humor, heart, and integrity. I am particularly interested in amplifying the voices of marginalized creators, supporting diversity, promoting stories that need to be heard, and connecting kids with nature without heavy lessons. (Think subversive and entertaining!) Though I love almost all books (see above), I have a particular fondness for picture books and books for younger readers.
